What could be more quintessentially American than rock stars, loud guitars, and fireworks? On July 2nd, Sherman, Texas, delivered all three during its annual "Lights On The Lake" Fourth of July spectacular. Each year, the city manages to outdo itself, and this year was no exception. Having previously hosted legendary acts like The Beach Boys, Cheap Trick, and Three Dog Night, the city took things to another level by bringing Billboard Music Award winners Collective Soul to the stage.
Despite the thermometer hitting 97 degrees, a massive crowd—estimated between twelve and fifteen thousand—gathered early to witness the performance. The atmosphere was electric. Thirty years into their career, Collective Soul proved they still possess an unmistakable, infectious energy. As they powered through hits like "Gel," "Shine," and "Heavy," the audience sang along in a nostalgic celebration of their youth.
A highlight of the evening occurred when frontman Ed Roland invited a local guitarist to join the band on stage. The young musician stepped up and performed admirably, blending in as if he were a permanent member of the group. As the music faded, the city of Sherman turned up the intensity once more, concluding the night with a stunning fireworks extravaganza.
