During the later innings of a Tuesday night game at Veterans Field in Fairview Park, I had the pleasure of meeting Sherman Shadowcats co-owner, Andrea Woodland. When she asked if I was enjoying my first visit, I didn't have a good answer for why I had waited three years to attend, but I knew for certain that I would be back.
The Sherman Shadowcats, representing the Texoma area, were established as an independent team in 2023. Under the dedicated leadership of Andrea and Tim Woodland, every home game is a family-friendly, all-inclusive experience. In 2026, the team joined the Texas Collegiate League, providing a platform for college-level players to hone their skills during the summer months.
When the team was introduced in 2023 so were significant renovations to Veterans Field, including upgraded seating, a new scoreboard, and the addition of the 903 Beer Garden. The fan experience is top-tier, featuring popular promotions like two-dollar hot dog nights, three-dollar beer nights, and discounted concessions. The team also excels at community engagement; on my visit, the event coincided with Disco Night and Scout Night, which featured local Boy Scouts running the bases. I was particularly moved by the team's tribute to our armed forces, where players personally greeted veterans in the stands. With constant between-inning entertainment—like pie-in-the-face contests and fan-versus-player golf—the Shadowcats offer incredible value for the price.
